Satisfying the Search Engines - Internet Content Ratings

Another important meta tag is the PICS, Platform for Internet Content Selection, Label. This meta tag was developed by the internet consortium. Support for RSACi, or the Recreational Software Advisory Council on the Internet, standard for PICS labeling and content control was available starting with Internet Explorer version 3.0, and is now also in Netscape Navigator 4.06. The label allows a web site to be rated in the categories of sex, violence, nudity, and language. Parents can control which content labels are allowable on their browsers. Though the search engines currently don't utilize the PICS meta tags as part of their search criteria, this is something we can look forward to in the future (Weburbia and RSACi). You can apply for a PICS label at the RSACi website, http://www.rsac.org/.
